Is corporate ethics and compliance (E&C) using AI setting a thief to catch a thief?
AI has the potential to enable ethics and compliance (E&C) departments to do their jobs better and more efficiently, but it also introduces several ethical risks. The mandate of an E&C department is to manage a company’s ethical risks. To date, there has been no comprehensive ethical analysis of AI in corporate E&C. Similarly, no framework for AI in corporate E&C has been proposed. The presentation fills these two gaps by (1) developing a framework for AI in corporate E&C based on the ethically relevant characteristics of AI systems and their data, and (2) identifying the ethical risks of AI in corporate E&C. The analysis provides a perspective on the ethical risks that AI solutions may pose in E&C activities. It also enables E&C professionals to mitigate the ethical risks of their AI systems in advance.
